Flyers fever!

It’s been too long since the Philadelphia Flyers have made it to the Stanley Cup finals...but here they go! In honor of their first game against the Chicago Blackhawks I whipped up a quick coaster in the shape of their logo. The jersey is an original from 1974-1975, not a new “retro” version. Bernie still lives in the area and has been writing some snippets for the newspaper this week. Nothing more I can say except, “Let’s go, Flyers!”

Lilytopia Shawl

Until now I have resisted making a round shawl, for no good reason. I think I was afraid it would like I was wearing a doily! But the Daylily Colourway of Blue Heron’s Egyptian Mercerized Cotton inspired me – and I love the results! The pattern will be available soon.

The shawl is named in honor of a flower festival at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. It’s lightweight and can be worn folded, flung, draped, or even bunched up like a scarf. I will have this on all summer!

Join me on Facebook!

Sharon Silverman Contemporary Crochet on FacebookAt long last, I have created the “Sharon Silverman Contemporary Crochet” page on Facebook. I’m still shaky on how everything works there – even after reading Facebook Marketing for Dummies several times, and spending a couple of hours in a phone consultation with an expert – but I will work to make the page a friendly, helpful place where we can share our passion for crochet. Visit my page and let me know where I can find you on Facebook!

A new name; two new patterns available

The Tunisian frosted stitch is one of my favorites. This new shawl, Oceanside Dunes, shows off the little peaks that are created on the return pass of each row. It’s made in machine-washable cotton/acrylic Jeannee yarn from Plymouth, perfect for summer.

I’ve also renamed the chocolate and vanilla shawl from a couple of posts ago “Milk and Cookies.” (Must be in a food phase!) The “Oceanside Dunes” and “Milk and Cookies” patterns are now available via my website.

Fanette Shawl in Silk and Silver

I’ve been eager to try the Silk and Silver yarn from Blue Heron. The seal/ombre is a lovely colourway shot through with real silver. When I opened the package, I was a little worried that the silver threads would shed – and you all know that I can’t stand yarn that sheds! Not one thread came off. It was easy to work with and has a wonderful drape. It’s hard to tell in the photos, but in real life the fine silver threads have just the right amount of sparkle.

The Fanette Shawl is worked in a two-row Tunisian crochet pattern that creates little lacy fans and openwork. It is edged along the bottom with simple arches in regular crochet. The pattern is for sale on my website.
